The 2018 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team defeated Canada, 3-2, in a shootout to win the gold medal on Thursday, Feb. 22, in Gangneung, South Korea.
The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey team claimed its second-ever gold medal after Team USA earned the inaugural gold medal in the event at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan. The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team has medaled in all six Olympic appearances to date (gold – 1998, 2018; silver – 2002, 2010, 2014 and bronze – 2006).
Leading up to the gold medal, Team USA carried a 3-1 victory over Finland, 5-0 win over Olympic Athletes from Russia, and a 2-1 loss to Canada through preliminary into the Medal Round, before topping Finland, 5-0, in the semifinals.
The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games were held in PyeongChang, South Korea, from February 10, 2018 through February 25, 2018. The U.S. Women’s Ice Hockey Team played its games at Kwandong Hockey Centre in Gangneung, South Korea, and Gangneung Hockey Centre in Gangneung, South Korea.
The tournament was highlighted by Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scoring the game-winner in the sixth round of the shootout and Maddie Rooney stopping 29 shots and four of Canada’s six shootout attempts as the U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team defeated Canada in a shootout, 3-2, to win gold at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. br>
The USA Hockey-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Authentication Program is proud to offer fans and collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history... the one set of white and the one set of navy jerseys worn during the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games.
There was one set of navy, one set of white, and one set of royal blue jerseys manufactured by Nike and prepared for use by the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey team at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. One extra royal blue Gigi Marvin jersey was manufactured and worn on February 13, 2018 vs. the Olympic Athletes from Russia. This jersey was donated to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Each jersey was bar-coded before the tournament. The sets of jerseys were collected after each game by Team USA's equipment staff. Each jersey offered in auction has been security-tagged with an individually serial-numbered USA Hockey-MeiGray Authentication Program inventory tag.
The Gold Medal Winning U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team wore the set of white jerseys in two games, the set of navy jerseys in one game, and the set of royal blue jerseys in two games. The players retained the set of royal blue jerseys.
The U.S. Women’s Olympic Gold Medal Winning Team wore the white jerseys in the following 2018 Winter Olympic games:
*February 11, 2018, a 3-1 victory over Finland.
*February 15, 2018, a 2-1 loss to Canada.
The U.S. Women’s Olympic Gold Medal Winning Team wore the navy jerseys in the following 2018 Winter Olympic game:
*February 19, 2018, a 5-0 victory over Finland in the Semifinals.
This auction is for the actual white jersey worn by #35 Maddie Rooney.
Rooney played in 4 games during the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. She did not dress vs. the Olympic Athletes of Russia on February 13. After two years of collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth, Rooney joined the U.S. Women's National Team for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
This jersey, a Size 58G, has been registered in the USA Hockey-MeiGray Game-Worn Authentication Program as number USA09863.
