At 19 years and 266 days old, the Oilers entrusted their leadership to the Richmond Hill, Ontario, native whom they selected first overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Despite missing 37 games with a broken collarbone during his 2015-16 rookie season, McDavid scored 16 goals and 32 assists in 45 games.
McDavid burst onto the international hockey scene in 2013, when he played for the Canadian U18s at the IIHF World Championships. He scored a goal and added two assists in his debut against Slovakia and had a hat trick against Sweden, leading a plethora of hockey scouts to dub him "The Next One."
