Welcome to the National Women's Hockey League-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program's Inaugural Game-Worn Jersey Auction.
The NWHL, now in its second season, is the first professional women's hockey league in North America to pay its players. The Inaugural season began on October 11, 2015 and ended with the Boston Pride raising the first Isobel Cup on March 12, 2016.
MeiGray, named the Official Game-Worn Jersey Source for the National Women's Hockey League, will throughout the 2016-17 season will be offering game-worn jerseys from all four NWHL clubs: Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale and New York Riveters.
The NWHL-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program is proud to offer fans and collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history ... an actual jersey worn by #28 Amanda Kessel of the New York Riveters during the 2016-2017 National Women's Hockey League preseason. This jersey was autographed by Kessel after it was worn.
Kessel has won a medal at every international tournament she has competed in, and is in her first season in the NWHL. She played her college hockey at University of Minnesota, where she won a national championship in 2013.Her brother Phil is a member of the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
This Red w/A jersey, a Size 48, is registered into the MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program as number MGG010229. Each jersey has the player's native country flag on the left sleeve.
The NWHL-MGG Auction season is kicking off with one complete set of game-worn jerseys from each of the four clubs, worn exclusively during the 2016-17 NWHL preseason.
The Riveters signed the league's first player, Austrian forward Janine Weber, and finished fourth in the NWHL during its inaugural season. The Riveters held the first overall pick for the second time in 2016. After selecting 2014 Sochi medalist Alexandra Carpenter (U.S.A.) first overall in 2015, they selected Princeton University's high-scoring blueliner Kelsey Koelzer. They also signed Amanda Kessel, sister of Pittsburgh Penguins winger Phil Kessel, to a one-year, $26,000 contract on May 1, 2016.
MGG also works with eight National Hockey League clubs: Boston Bruins, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals.
