Christian Yelich wore these cleats while playing for the Milwaukee Brewers during a 5-1 victory over the New York Mets at American Family Field in Milwaukee, WI. The cleats are photo-matched and feature MLB Authentication holograms for the autographs on each shoe.
Yelich powered the Brewers to victory with a solo homer off Tylor Megill that extended their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning. Yelich went 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk in the game.
Yelich was one of the most productive players in baseball from 2018 to 2019, winning the 2018 NL MVP and finishing second in 2019. Over those two seasons, he slashed .327/.415/.631 with a 1.046 OPS, 80 homers, 107 RBIs and 52 steals. Yelich was marginalized by injuries in 2020, but has bounced back in 2022 and has raised his batting average, home runs and steals each season since 2020.
These cleats, which were customized and painted by Stadium Custom Kicks, were designed to support both More Than Baseball and Players for the Planet, a nonprofit which works to unite all athletes in preserving the Earth's oceans and environment. The cleats feature Players for the Planet's logo on the left heel and More Than Baseball's logo on the right heel with a "sunset over the ocean" design on the left shoe and an underwater-themed design on the right shoe.
Currently, the average Minor League baseball player earns less than the federal minimum wage, yet must locate and pay for their own housing, and receives no financial or logistical support for nutrition and equipment needs. Furthermore, as 90% of Minor League ballplayers do not reach the Major Leagues, most never receive even minimal support after their playing careers are over.
