Ke'Bryan Hayes wore these cleats while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates during a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 24, 2021 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA. The cleats feature an MLB Authentication hologram on each cleat for the autographs.
Hayes went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the game.
Hayes made his MLB debut with a 20-game cameo in 2020, finishing sixth in the NL Rookie of the Year voting after hitting .376 and slugging .682. He hit .257 with six homers and nine steals in 96 games during 2021.
These cleats, which were customized and painted by Stadium Custom Kicks, feature a black-and-yellow "H-Town" camo design with 3D textures across the uppers. The tongue's New Balance logos replaces the "NB" with Hayes' initials.
Currently, the average Minor League baseball player earns less than the federal minimum wage, yet must locate and pay for their own housing, and receives no financial or logistical support for nutrition and equipment needs. Furthermore, as 90% of Minor League ballplayers do not reach the Major Leagues, most never receive even minimal support after their playing careers are over.
