Joe Musgrove wore these cleats while playing for the San Diego Padres during their 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on August 21, 2021 at Petco Park in San Diego, CA. The cleats are photo-matched and feature MLB Authentication holograms for the autographs on each cleat. The photo-match is to the medial side of the right cleat, shown coming into the air on Musgrove's follow-through.
Musgrove dealt six innings of one-run ball, allowing one run and striking out nine with two walks, but did not factor into the decision. He dropped his ERA to 3.04 with the quality start.
Musgrove's first season in San Diego saw him become a true top-of-the-rotation starter, as he struck out 203 batters and only walked 54 in 181.1 innings. He pitched to a 3.18 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP, and his two complete game shutouts led the major leagues.
These cleats, which were customized and painted by Stadium Custom Kicks, feature a mismatched design inspired by Nike's "What The" Dunk, one of the most coveted pairs of sneakers in existence. Ball field diagrams adorn the inner and outer parts of the shoes as well as the toes.
