The six PWHL teams descended upon Utica, NY's Nexus Center for four days of exhibition games, with each team playing three games. MeiGray staff was in attendance to authenticate when these jerseys were worn, and to take them straight off the ice. Jill Saulnier wore this white jersey while playing for PWHL New York during the inaugural PWHL Player Evaluation Camp.
PWHL New York played three games during the Evaluation Camp, defeating PWHL Montreal, 4-0, on December 4, defeating PWHL Ottawa, 2-1, in the Fan Fest game on December 5 that was open to the public, and defeating PWHL Toronto, 6-4, on December 7.
Saulnier was wearing this jersey when she scored the shootout-deciding goal on December 7, 2023 against PWHL Toronto at the Nexus Center in Utica, NY. Although victory was already decided in New York’s favor, each team and each goaltender gave their all in the shootout, which extended to eight rounds. Abby Roque for New York and Sarah Nurse for Toronto were the only shooters to convert on their shots in the initial five rounds, sending the shootout to sudden death. No other goals were scored until Saulnier, the eighth shooter for New York, was able to solve Toronto's Kristen Campbell. New York took the game by a score of 7-4 and became one of two teams to sweep their games at the preseason camp.
Taken by New York in the seventh round of the inaugural PWHL draft, Jill Saulnier won two Olympic medals and four World Championship medals with Team Canada, including a gold medal from each tournament. She has played three seasons with the PWHPA, winning a Secret Cup with Team Bauer in 2021. She also won a Clarkson Cup with the Calgary Inferno in 2016. Saulnier spent four years at Cornell University, where she was a Top Three Finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award in 2014.
Every jersey worn by each of these participating MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program clubs contains a uniquely numbered inventory tag sewn into the jersey BEFORE IT IS WORN BY THE PLAYER ON THE ICE. This tag is equipped with covert security features regularly checked by MGG Program Directors so we can tell who wore the jersey, and when.
