The six PWHL teams descended upon Utica, NY's Nexus Center for four days of exhibition games, with each team playing three games. MeiGray staff was in attendance to authenticate when these jerseys were worn, and to take them straight off the ice. Elizabeth Giguere wore this white jersey while playing for PWHL New York during the inaugural PWHL Player Evaluation Camp.
PWHL New York played three games during the Evaluation Camp, defeating PWHL Montreal, 4-0, on December 4, defeating PWHL Ottawa, 2-1, in the Fan Fest game on December 5 that was open to the public, and defeating PWHL Toronto, 6-4, on December 7.
Giguere provided two assists and scored in the shootout on December 4, 2023 against PWHL Montreal at the Nexus Center in Utica, NY. Her first point was a primary assist on New York's first goal of the camp, scored by Alex Carpenter at 6:29 of the first period. She added another primary assist on New York’s second goal, scored by Jessie Eldridge with three seconds left in the first period. Giguere capped off the night by scoring New York’s first goal in the shootout that took place after every game. She was awarded Third Star of the Game honors for her performance as New York earned the 4-1 win.
Giguere provided another shootout goal, in front of the first fans to watch PWHL teams compete at the Fan Fest on December 5, 2023 against PWHL Ottawa. When the game ended 1-1 after regulation and overtime, Giguere’s shootout goal helped New York complete the comeback victory.
Giguere provided two more assists on December 7, 2023 against PWHL Toronto. Toronto went up by two goals early in the first, which New York matched by the end of the period. Toronto scored again in the second, then New York, then Toronto again. Giguere's first point of the game came on a beautiful behind-the-back pass to Emma Woods, who was skating down the slot. Woods' goal which tied the score again in the final three minutes of regulation. New York would score another goal with six seconds remaining on the clock to earn the regulation win. As each game was followed by an overtime period regardless of the outcome in regulation, Toronto had the opportunity to tie things up in overtime, and perhaps earn the victory in the shootout. Giguere provided the helper on Jamie Bourbonnais’ goal which sealed the victory. New York finished with a 7-4 win after taking the shootout in eight dramatic rounds, becoming one of two teams to sweep their games in the preseason camp.
PWHL New York’s fifth pick in the inaugural draft, Elizabeth Giguere joins the team after tying for ninth in scoring across the PHF during her first professional season. Giguere tallied 22 points in 18 games and was a finalist for Rookie of the Year. In five NCAA seasons with Clarkson University and the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Giguere was a four-time finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, winning the award in 2020. She won an NCAA Championship with Clarkson in 2018.
Every jersey worn by each of these participating MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program clubs contains a uniquely numbered inventory tag sewn into the jersey BEFORE IT IS WORN BY THE PLAYER ON THE ICE. This tag is equipped with covert security features regularly checked by MGG Program Directors so we can tell who wore the jersey, and when.
