The jersey includes the alternate captain's "A." It was ironed on to the front for public appearances after Shelton was named an alternate captain for New York.
The six PWHL teams descended upon Utica, NY's Nexus Center for four days of exhibition games, with each team playing three games. MeiGray staff was in attendance to authenticate when these jerseys were worn, and to take them straight off the ice. Alex Carpenter wore this white jersey while playing for PWHL New York during the inaugural PWHL Player Evaluation Camp. The jersey includes the alternate captain's "A." It was ironed on to the front for public appearances after Carpenter was named an alternate captain for New York.
PWHL New York played three games during the Evaluation Camp, defeating PWHL Montreal, 4-0, on December 4, defeating PWHL Ottawa, 2-1, in the Fan Fest game on December 5 that was open to the public, and defeating PWHL Toronto, 6-4, on December 7.
Carpenter was wearing this jersey when she scored PWHL New York’s first goal of the camp on December 4, 2023 against PWHL Montreal at the Nexus Center in Utica, NY. Carpenter opened the scoring at 6:29 of the first period, with assists from Elizabeth Giguere and Jessie Eldridge. Carpenter also scored a goal in the shootout that took place after every game, regardless of the score, as New York took the first win 4-1.
Carpenter also wore this jersey when she scored New York's only goal in regulation in the Fan Fest game on December 5, 2023 against PWHL Ottawa. In front of the first fans to watch PWHL teams compete, Carpenter scored a power play goal with under five minutes remaining in the third period, tying the score at 1-1. Jessie Eldridge and Jaime Bourbonnais provided the assists. New York was able to complete the comeback win with a 2-1 victory after the shootout.
Alex Carpenter was one of the initial three players signed to a contract by New York prior to the inaugural PWHL draft. A member of the American senior national team since 2013, Carpenter has earned eight medals at IIHF World Championships and two Olympic silver medals. She brings professional experience from the PWHPA, where she was a finalist for Best Forward last season, as well as the NWHL/PHF, the CWHL, and the ZHL in Russia. Carpenter won a ZHL championship with the KRS Vanke Rays in 2020 and served as captain in 2021, leading the league in points both seasons. She was the winner of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award in 2015 with Boston College.
