PWHL Toronto selected PWHL Minnesota - in the midst of a five-game losing streak - as its Walter Cup Semifinals opponent, per the PWHL's unique new rule. After being shut out in the first two games of the series, Minnesota went on to make an improbable run, holding Toronto to one goal in the next three games and completing a reverse sweep to reach the Walter Cup Finals.
In a captivating series that went five games, Minnesota celebrated what they thought was a series-winning double overtime goal in Game 4, but was overturned due to goaltender interference. Nevertheless, Minnesota stormed into Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA for Game 5 and locked down PWHL Boston with a 3-0 victory to win the first ever Walter Cup.
Boreen played five years with the University of Minnesota and captaining the Golden Gophers in her senior year. The Wisconsin native amassed 125 points in 165 collegiate games. She was highly productive in 2024, scoring four goals with one assist in nine games.
